The start of the Boy's Championship  game gave no indication of it becoming a blow out. A slow start for both teams had the score stuck on 2-1 for three+ minutes. Outside shots for both teams were clanking off the rim. Then Jefferson hit a some quick jumpers and the score was 8 - 3. Was this going to be a repeat of last years blow out-earning Jefferson the 2016 PSAL title?

Then it happened, Lincoln went from looking uncertain & a little lost to BOOM- an offensive explosion that saw them go on a 25- 5 run & it was game over. Their defense was intense & Jefferson just seemed to lose that edge that was carrying them through the play-offs playing their best ball of the season. A quick T on the Jefferson coach seemed to bother his team & motivate Lincoln even more as they just wouldn't be denied.

I kept waiting for Jefferson to make a run at Lincoln, but the closest they cut the lead to was 16 pts. & you felt that ok, one or two more baskets would get them going. It never happened because Lincoln would always respond with a key outside shot, a turn over off their swarming defense & another basket. One has to give credit to both coaches for their efforts this season. Coach Pollard got his team to play better toward the end of the season and seemed to be on a mission to prove they were better than a #8 seed. Coach Morton of Lincoln has to be given his props for keeping  Lincoln on track all season and going undefeated in the PSAL all season. Having that #1 target on your back all season, makes every game a challenge. His use of his bench, switching defenses and getting everyone playing as a team less interested in individual stats & more interested in that TEAM victory, can't be ignored. The man is a hell of a coach. Now it's off to the State Tourney in 2 weeks. Will it be vs Archbishop Molloy or Cardinal Hayes of the CHSAA ? The answer to that question will be known around 3 p.m. Sunday when the results come in from Fordham University, the site of the CHSAA Championship.  ( I think it will be Molloy)
