Just learning that Lincoln H.S. beat Long Island Lutheran (LUHI) in the finals of the N.Y. State Federation Championship which had returned to Glenn Falls after an 8 year run in Albany.
The final score was 80-63. Lincoln's all purpose guard Donell Flores was named MVP after a 21 pt performance. It was highlighted by his 11- 0 point out burst at the end of the 2nd quarter which resulted in the Railsplitters being up 10 @ the half.
Lock down Defense on LUHI's potent offense kept Lincoln in the lead down the stretch. A strong inside contribution by Lincoln's 6'11" Othello Smith with rebounding & put backs helped & Sr. forward Michael Reid came up with several timely 3 pointers. LUHI cut the lead to 8 at one point, but Lincoln's D & clutch free throws from MVP Flores resulted in a Lincoln win & a return of the State Championship to the Coney Island school. Hats off to Coach Morton & a group of tough, smart players who are a perfect example of what a T E A M can do when they are unselfish & dedicated to just winning as a TEAM.
Also- props to the South Shore for winning the Girl's Championship! Super accomplishment for the PSAL & NYC Basketball!
his Othello Smith 6'11
My mistake- "this guy" is benched today. Trevonn, hope you'll continue to post on here with information on all the games you'll be seeing in the future . "This guy" has fewer games to see than I've previously seen in my first 70 yrs. Fewer years = fewer games. It's a "Numbers Game". LOL Those who know of my work, will get the humor. :)
Do a better job than I did today. Othello deserved better from me today as do all the ballers who represent their schools & NYC basketball. Whatever you can do to promote them & the Game is needed & will be greatly appreciated.
Once again "BROOKLYN" does it again on both sides
